Product Details

In the 18th and 19th centuries, large deposits of amethyst were found in Brazil, consequently depreciating its value. Yet, this contributed to its popularity and vast presence in antique jewelry. Advancements in gemstone cutting led to sophisticated amethyst bands, tiaras, brooches, and rivieres. Like garnets, antique amethysts were subject to foiling - which essentially was where colored foils were placed into the gemstone setting. This was especially popular in Regency England as candlelight balls allowed these inner fires to burn brightly.

In the Georgian era, amethyst was a popular choice for sentimental pieces. Circa 1830, this rare transitional jewel is one of the largest scale examples I’ve ever seen, fresh from London and absolutely unforgettable. 9k gold, English, foiling, hand etched band, size 7, extremely smooth and easy to wear.

Please view and inspect any photos closely. We endeavor to fully disclose all condition information clearly and concisely, however, please note that what qualifies as excellent condition for historical jewelry differs from modern and contemporary pieces; please take the age of the piece into account when examining the piece. Minor age wear is typical and to be expected for antique and vintage jewelry.
